Sakath teaser: Ganesh’s Balu isn’t visually-challenged after all, but why is he pretending?

While the makers had teased that Ganesh’s character may not be visually-challenged in the song Premakke Kannilla, which had scenes of him stealing glances at heroine Nishvika, it remains unknown why he takes on the charade.

Over the weekend, director Suni released a teaser for Golden Star Ganesh’s character Balu in their film Sakath. The teaser more or less confirmed the suspicions that audiences had about whether Balu is actually visually-challenged, considering that some of the visuals of the song Premakke Kannilla had him glancing at heroine Nishvika.

In the teaser also, Ganesh does and says stuff that has those around him wondering if he can see, only to have him explain his way out of the situation; like, for instance, when he presses the lift button, which does not have braille on it, with ease, and says that it he’s been doing it so long, it’s become habit. But the give-away comes towards the end, when Ganesh, as Balu, is shown watching movies that had visually-challenged protagonists, namely Shivarajkumar in Kavacha and Ayushmann Khurranna in Andhadhun.

What the teaser doesn’t answer and what we will probably have to wait for when the film releases on November 12 is why Balu pulls off this charade. In the past, the team had mentioned that the film follows the story of a visually-challenged music reality show participant. Given that a lot of reality shows thrive on the sob stories of participants, one wonders if he is pretending to be visually-challenged to garner sympathy bonus points on the show. Well, we will have too wait for the film to release to find out.

Sakath is Ganesh’s latest collaboration with director Suni, after their earlier film Chamak. The film pairs him with Nishvika Naidu, who also plays a visually-challenged character. Surbhi will make her debut in Sakath, which has music by Judah Sandhy.
