Sakutumba Sametha, which is actor-filmmaker Rakshit Shetty’s latest presentation from his production house, Paramvah Studios, is releasing in theatres on May 20. The film, directed by debutant Rahul PK, who earlier assisted Rakshit on Ulidavaru Kandanthe and Kirik Party, has been co-written by the director, along with Pooja Sudhir.
Speaking to the media recently about his production, which has Bharath GB and Siri Ravikumar in the lead and is about the coming together of two dysfunctional families and a wedding, Rakshit said that he was happy with the way the film turned out. “Although I had seen the short film Rahul had made earlier, and the fact that he has assisted me, I was curious to see how his first feature film would turn out. I knew about the subject, because he had given me a narration, but I also wanted to see the final product, which I did and liked. In fact, everyone that I have shown the film to so far has been appreciate and we have even managed to sell its digital and satellite rights. As a producer, it gives me great pleasure to say that we have sold the film for twice its budget,” said Rakshit.
The actor filmmaker, interestingly, added that Sakutumba Sametha too, like his own 777 Charlie, has been sold to Colors Kannada and Voot Select for the satellite and digital rights, respectively. “When we made this film, we had planned it as a straight-to-OTT release and had no plans of bringing it to theatres. But when the representatives of Colors saw the film, they thought it had the potential to draw crowds in movie halls too. They believed that there is a good segment of the audience that appreciates this genre of films. We also know this, but we were not sure if this audience would set out to the theatre during a pandemic. Later on, we were also convinced that it could get a good multiplex outing and, hence, the film is releasing on May 20,” said Rakshit. The OTT and TV release dates will be announced later.
