The Siri Ravikumar – Bharath GB starrer was expected to be on OTT by mid-July, but was then pushed ahead in favour of 777 Charlie

When actor-filmmaker Rakshit Shetty was promoting his production, Sakutumba Sametha, he had spoken about how he and director Rahul PK had envisioned it as a straight-to-OTT release, but that the satellite and digital partner – Colors Kannada and Voot Select – saw potential for a theatrical outing too. “When we made this film, we had planned it as a straight-to-OTT release and had no plans of bringing it to theatres. But when the representatives of Colors saw the film, they thought it had the potential to draw crowds in movie halls too. They believed that there is a good segment of the audience that appreciates this genre of films. We also know this, but we were not sure if this audience would set out to the theatre during a pandemic. Later on, we were also convinced that it could get a good multiplex outing,” Rakshit had said.
Sakutumba Sametha came to theatres on May 20 and got fairly decent reviews, but the box-office result did not match up to that. It was initially expected that the film would be on OTT within 30 days, but that would have coincided with the theatrical release of Rakshit’s 777 Charlie, which had also been sold to the same satellite and digital partner. It was then reported that Sakutumba Sametha, like 777 Charlie, had an after 48 days from theatrical release clause, so July 15 was believed to be the day. But there was no confirmation from Voot about the same, until now. According to the promos playing on Voot Select, Sakutumba Sametha will be available to stream starting this Friday, September 2.
Sakutumba Sametha is about Shraddha (Siri Ravikumar) and Suri (Bharath), who meet via a match-making app. With only days to go for their big day, Shraddha gets cold feet and urges Suri to put things on standby as far as the prep is concerned, compelling the two slightly dysfunctional families to get together and talk things out. Will they be able to sort out the issues and go ahead with the wedding after all?
