Sakutumba Sametha, the latest production by actor-filmmaker Rakshit Shetty, will release next week. The film’s trailer, which dropped a while ago, announced May 20 as its theatrical release date. Directed by Rahul PK, who has co-written the story of Sakutumba Sametha with Pooja Sudhir, the film, according to its official description is a heart-warming tale following the protagonists, Suri (Bharath GB) and Shraddha (Siri Ravikumar) as a soon-to-be wedded couple. When Shraddha then decides to call off the wedding with only one week to go before D-Day, the families, who turn out to be rather dysfunctional, meet up to try and figure out a reconciliation.

Starring Bharath GB, Siri Ravikumar, Achyuth Kumar, Krishna Hebbale, Pushpa Belawadi, Rekha Kudligi, Jayalaxmi Patil, Shankar Murthy SR, Gowtham Upadhya, among others, Sakutumba Sametha has music by Midhun Mukundan.

The family drama-comedy is Rahul PK’s first independent directorial, having assisted on Rakshit’s film’s like Ulidavaru Kandanthe, Kirik Party and Ricky. The film was ready a year ago, and the makers were toying with whether to opt for a theatrical release or go straight to OTT. Once they decided to go with the first option, it was rumoured that the film was gearing up for release on May 27.

Rakshit, who is counting down to his next, 777 Charlie, which is also a home production and will be out on June 10, is also backing a film called Abracadabra, which stars Anant Nag, Siri Ravikumar, BV Shrunga, and Avinash Rai and is being directed by Shishir Rajmohan. The actor-filmmaker also recently launched a subsidiary to his production house Paramvah Studios, called Paramvah Spotlight, to produce content-oriented cinema, the first of which, Strawberry, with Sruthi Hariharan in the lead, is also complete. The actor, who is on a schedule break from his film with Hemanth M Rao, Sapta Sagaradaache Ello, will begin work on his directorial Richard Anthony thereafter.
