Meghna Gulzar’s next directorial, Sam Bahadur, has finally gone on floors. The upcoming biographical drama is based on the life of Field Marshal Sam Manekshaw and stars Vicky Kaushal, Fatima Sana Shaikh, Sanya Malhotra in pivotal roles.

Taking to her social media handles, Meghna announced the beginning of filming and shared a BTS video from the sets. The video shows Vicky Kaushal, Fatima, Sanya and the rest of the cast and crew as they go through the various stages of prep for the film. From location recce, to table reads to costume trials, viewers can see the crew hard at work to bring Meghna’s vision to life. We also get to see glimpses of Vicky as the titular protagonist as well as Fatima as Indira Gandhi.

Sharing the clip on Instagram, Meghna captioned it “Only Gratitude as we set out on this extremely special Journey...#Samबहादुर Now Filming”.

In a statement, Meghna spoke of the years of rigorous preparation they had put in for the film, including extensive research, writing and brainstorming. The director said that it was incredibly fulfilling to tell Sam Manekshaw's inspiring life story. “A life of bravery, courage, determination and righteousness. They don’t make men like him anymore!", said Meghna of the late field marshal.

Vicky also spoke of how lucky he felt to essay the role of the late military officer. He said that the team had put in a lot of work for the film and he was sure audiences would be thrilled to witness Sam's mesmerising journey to making India what it is today.

Fatima said it was a huge honour for her to be a part of such an inspiring story of one of the greatest war heroes of the nation. Sanya, who will be seen sharing the screen with Vicky for the first time, said she would do her best to do justice to her part.
