Samantha Ruth Prabhu praises Mammootty-Jyothika's Kaathal – The Core, calls it 'movie of the year'

Actor Samantha Ruth Prabhu is mighty impressed by the latest Malayalam movie, Kaathal – The Core. In a glowing review, she declared the film, starring Mammootty and Jyothika, as the "movie of the year." 

Judging from Samantha's review, Kaathal – The Core seems to have had a very profound effect on her. "Movie of the year. Do yourself a favour and watch this beautiful yet powerful gem of a film. #Kaathalthecore. Mammootty sir you are my hero. I will not be able to get over this performance for a long long time. Jyothika Love you. Jeo Baby Legendary," Samantha wrote in her Instagram story. 

Samantha is the latest celebrity to heap praises on the film, which arrived in cinemas earlier this week.

Kaathal – The Core opened in cinemas to glowing reviews from critics and audiences alike. "Kaathal – The Core navigates through a myriad of sensitive subjects and personal choices deeply influenced by the age-old societal concern of "What will people say?" The film suggests that this concern, often prioritised at the cost of one's prime years, is ultimately overrated and inconsequential," wrote OTTpllay's film critic Manoj Kumar R in his four-star review.

Filmmaker Jeo Baby has helmed the film from a script written by Adarsh Sukumaran and Paulson Skaria. The slow-moving narration unravels a very personal secret of Mathew (Mammootty), which he deems shameful as a middle-aged man in a heterosexual marriage. However, his wife of 20 years Omana (Jyothika) decides to put an end to all their sufferings stemming from the backlash they might face from society. 

Many have hailed Mammootty for pushing the boundaries of his stardom by taking on unconventional roles. Besides playing the lead, Mammootty has also bankrolled the film under his home production banner.
