Up-and-coming Telugu actors Kiran Abbavaram and Chandini Chowdary are teaming up for a feel-good romance Sammathame, that went on floors earlier this January. The film is directed by Gopinath Reddy, who has also penned the story, screenplay and dialogues for the same. K Praveena is bankrolling the film under UG Productions. A few making stills from the film's sets have hinted that something special and poetic is in the offing from team Sammathame. The first glimpse of the true-blue romance was released earlier today.
In the first glimpse, the girl (Chandini Chowdary) tells the boy (Kiran Abbavaram), 'I understand your problem. Let's not sing a song and instead use the lyrics to converse with one another. If you try singing them in a tune, you lose the game.' The boy brings in references of a popular song like Kothaga Kothaga Unnadi (from Venkatesh's Coolie No. 1), the girl responds with another song Kanulu Kalapavaye, Manasu Telapavaye (a lyric from Andanga Lena in Godavari). The two develop a strong rapport over time, like one another, while the title song from Sammathame plays in the background.
Kiran and Chandini make for a refreshing on-screen pair. Moreover, it's a relief to see two Telugu-speaking actors play the leads in a Telugu film after ages. Kiran and Chandini are at their spontaneous best in the brief moments that we get to witness from the aesthetically-shot glimpse. Sateesh Reddy Masam's appealing cinematography instantly catches your eye and the couple of lines from the title song also raises expectations of a solid album from composer Sekhar Chandra.
Both Kiran Abbavaram and Chandini are a high in the recent past. While Colour Photo breathed a new lease of life into Chandini's career, the commercial success of SR Kalyana Mandapam has provided a good foundation for Kiran as a lead actor. Chandini was also seen in Hotstar's web series Unheard, where she essayed the role of a staunch Gandhian to perfection. Sammathame is a breath of fresh air that Telugu cinema desperately needs and is coming from a young, passionate team that's keen to deliver a solid product. Viplav Nyshadam is the editor of the film while Sudheer Macharla is the art director.
