Akshay Kumar’s Samrat Prithviraj, which sees him essaying the role of King Prithviraj Chauhan, was a highly-awaited Hindi movie. Following its grand release on June 3, the movie has now ended the first weekend on a high.

According to trade analyst Ramesh Bala, Samrat Prithviraj has made Rs. 16 crore Nett across the country. Box Office India also reports that the movie has made approximately Rs. 16 crore on its first Sunday. With it opening at Rs. 10. 75 crore and minting Rs. 12.60 crore on its second day, the total collection of Samrat Prithviraj has become Rs. 39. 25 crore.

Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh are the states that have all put up impressive numbers. The movie’s first weekend collection is the third highest after the pandemic after Sooryavanshi and Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2 for original Hindi films.

Kumar’s historical war drama was off to a slow start following a clash with Adivi Sesh’s Major and Kamal Haasan’s Vikram, which was also released in Hindi as Vikram Hitlist.

Samrat Prithviraj is directed by Chandra Prakash Dwivedi and also stars Manushi Chhillar, Sonu Sood, Sanjay Dutt, Ashutosh Rana and Sakshi Tanwar in supporting roles. The movie has received mixed reactions following its release.

“Samrat Prithviraj has all the elements making it worth a watch, and yes, the trailer didn't do justice to the film. However, we cannot ignore the fact that Akshay Kumar is the weakest despite being the star of the show.” reads the movie’s review on OTTplay.

While Samrat Prithviraj became one of Kumar’s most expensive movies, it is yet to have a strong grip over the box office. The movie, which is backed by Yash Raj Films, is now available in theatres near you.
