Samrat Prithviraj has finally hit theatres today. The highly awaited historical drama saw Akshay Kumar essay the role of the titular king, while Manushi Chhillar starred as Sanyogita, the king’s consort. On more than one occasion, Kumar has expressed his excitement about the film, teasing it to be a visual spectacle and one that should be watched by Indian audiences. Unsurprisingly, Kumar’s fans seemed to have flocked to theatres right on the first day to catch the film on screen.

Many viewers took to Twitter to talk about the film,and most of them had nothing but good things to say of it. ‘Outstanding’, ‘tremendous’, ‘emotional’, ‘blockbuster’ were some of the words used by netizens to describe the film. Calling the film a ‘winner’, one user praised director Chandraprakash Dwivedi for his ‘authentic’ portrayal of the king and said they got ‘goosebumps’ watching the film.

Many users singled out Kumar for his performance, while also appreciating the performance of the rest of the cast.

One of the main things many users loved about the film seemed to be its emotional sequences, including the film’s climax. Users called the climax ‘unbelievable’ and ‘electrifying’, and admitted that they had gotten emotional after watching the film.

Celebrities also joined in expressing their appreciation of the historical drama. Rakul Preet Singh talked about how the film was a ‘visual experience’ and praised Kumar and Chhillar’s performances.Jackky Bhagnani called it a ‘must watch’, and said that no one but Kumar could have brought the king’s story to life like Kumar.

But despite all the positive reactions, there were many who were less than impressed with the film. While some criticised the casting, acting and direction, others debated the historical accuracy of the film.

Samrat Prithviraj is now showing in theatres. After its theatrical run, the film will be released on Amazon Prime Video.
