Samvritha Sunil was a delightful presence in Malayalam cinema during the 2000s and 2010s before she quit cinema as she stepped into her marital life. Her debut film was Rasikan, starring Dileep, which was released in 2004. But did you know Samvritha had actually given a screen test for the role of Balamani in Nandanam, starring Navya Nair? Well, that’s an interesting piece of information that the actress herself has shared.

Samvritha Sunil as Balamani of Nandanam?

Nandanam is a popular Malayalam film, which was released in 2002. Navya Nair played the lead role of Balamani in the film, and it remains to be her most popular character. However, in a recent interview with Cue Studio, Samvritha Sunil shared that she had actually given the screen test for Nandanam. But that did not work out, she said, but did not explain why.

However, this did lead to a positive impact later on. Nandanam was helmed by noted director Ranjith, and since he did not cast Samvritha as Balamani, he did consider her when he directed Chandrolsavam with Mohanlal in the lead. Samvritha was cast as Malavika in the film, in which she was noticed despite it being a short role.

"Rasikan was not a big success. And if I had thought that I would only do heroine roles, then I probably wouldn't have done this many films. So immediately after Rasikan, when I got Chandrolsavam, and even though it was a small role, I became familiar to the people because of the song (Muttathethum Thennale),” she recounted.

More than anything, it was an opportunity to share screen space with Mohanlal, she added gleefully.

Chandrolsavam, starring Mohanlal and Meena, revolves around Sreehari, who returns to his village after being wrongfully imprisoned for plotting a crime. 

Nandanam, on the other hand, starred Navya Nair as Balamani along with Prithviraj Sukumaran. The film revolves around Balamani who works as a maid at the ancestral house of Unniamma. Navya, too, had taken a break from acting after marriage, but returned to Malayalam cinema with the 2022 film Oruthee.

Samvritha last acted in Sathyam Paranja Viswasikkuvo along with Biju Menon in 2019.
