Sanam Teri Kasam makers Vinay Sapru and Radhika Rao were discriminated against when they tried to release their movie originally. The Harshvardhan Rane-Mawra Hocane starrer was ignored by all back when it was released in 2016. Now, they have received an apology and recovered all losses with the movie's theatrical re-release. The film reached a wider audience over the years but was initially rejected even by its own studios, who asked if the movie was Sanjay Leela Bhansali-level masterpiece.
Back when Vinay Sapru and Radhika Rao tried to release Sanam Teri Kasam, production studios backed out asking if the film was Bhansali-backed. They recalled to KoiMoi about being taunted when trying their best to promote the film. "Jab Hum Picture Leke Jaa Rahe They, Toh Woh Bol Rahe The Ki Aap Kyu Hamare Paas Baar Baar Aa Rahe Ho Yeh Kehte Hue Ki Kisi Ko Aata Nahi Hai, Better Promote Karo! Aapne Koi Masterpiece Banayi Hai? Aap Koi Bhansali Ho?," the director-duo recalled.
Even if rejected in 2016, Sanam Teri Kasam found an audience after almost a decade (nine long years). The film re-released in theatres in February 2025, and it finally regained its position and went from being a flop to a superhit.
Now that the movie has proven to be beloved, the makers are considering Sanam Teri Kasam sequel. While they have come across some trouble, they are trying to sort it out to be able to present the fans with a new installment of Sanam Teri Kasam. Although Harshvardhan Rane will be a part of the movie, the chances of Mawra Hocane returning are very slim.
In case you missed its theatrical release again, fear not. Sanam Teri Kasam can still be streamed on Zee5 via OTTplay Premium. We recommend you watch the movie at least once (and this is your time to)!
