One of the most awaited Netflix outings, celebrated filmmaker Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Heeramandi - Where Courtesans Were Queens is often in the news these days. Featuring Aditi Rao Hydari, Richa Chadha, Sonakshi Sinha, Manisha Koirala, Sanjeeda Sheikh and Mark Bennington, among others, in pivotal roles, is sure to be a spectacle in the digital space - much like K Asif’s epic historical drama Mughal-e-Azam, many say. However, it was recently reported that SLB is not quite happy with a few scenes, and he might consider reshooting a few episodes, meaning the release will be further delayed. This may not be the case though.

According to a report published in India Today, the different episodes of Heeramandi are being helmed by different directors, who have previously worked under the filmmaker. “SLB is only directing major sequences for the series. However, recently, when he watched a few scenes from the episodes shot by other directors, he was apparently not happy. The filmmaker has been insisting on reshooting parts of the episodes he is not convinced about,” the sources said.

Now, another report has surfaced, stating - “there is no reshoot happening”. Sources close to the project told PinkVilla, “SLB is happy with the way Heeramandi is shaping up and everything at the moment is going as per schedule. There is no truth to these mischievous rumours. There is no re-shoot. SLB is a perfectionist and really goes into details of things but he is very happy with everything.”

Heeramandi is set in pre-Independence India, and the plot is centred on a powerful group of courtesans. Speaking about the series, SLB had earlier said, “Heeramandi has a special place in my heart, as it has stayed with me for 14 years. The most compelling aspect of storytelling for me is the opportunity to represent real characters, especially women, and portray their emotions with interesting nuances. The women of Heeramandi are queens in their own right, and my effort with this story is to bring these historic characters to life with a modern approach.”
