Kannada filmmaker Nagashekar’s latest, Sanju Weds Geetha 2, the spiritual sequel to his earlier film Sanju Weds Geetha, released in theatres in January this year, but had to be withdrawn only 3 days later, following widespread complaints about inconsistencies in the narrative and lackluster screenplay, among others. The film team had explained that the issue stemmed from the fact that around 20 minutes of footage did not make it to the print that went to theatres, which they’d attach and re-release the film at a later stage.
It took them nearly 6 months to put this plan into action and then brought the film to theatres recently. What was conspicuous each time, though, was that while Nagashekar and leading man Srinagara Kitty took the charge of the promotions, there was absolutely no sign of heroine Rachita Ram. Every time the team was asked about her absence, they claimed that her busy schedule prevented her from attending all activities, but that she would join them for main events.
However, that also did not happen, and now, the team has formally lodged a complaint against Rachita. Speaking to the media after registering the complaint with the Karnataka Film Chamber of Commerce, Nagashekar stated that multiple efforts had been made to reach Rachita, directly and through her manager, which yielded no result. They also got Karnataka Film Artists Association president Rockline Venkatesh to request Rachita to join the promotions, but she, allegedly, did not heed his word either.
With the actress refusing to promote the film, Nagashekar, joined by Srinagara Kitty, saw no other avenue, but to address it officially with the chamber, urging it to take action against her. The filmmaker, who said that he’s not aware if Rachita distanced herself from the team owing to issues during the making, also stated that if there was anything, she ought to address it.
