Sankranthiki Vasthunnam is one of the biggest hits in Telugu cinema and has made just over Rs 300 crore at the box office. We at OTTplay have already revealed that Zee5 has bagged the digital rights to the film for a whopping Rs 30 crore. The family drama was supposed to be released on OTT on February 14, 2025, but that did not happen as the makers opted for a TV premiere first, followed by the OTT release.
We previously reported that the OTT release would happen two weeks after the TV premiere. We have also reported that Sankranthiki Vasthunnam will premiere on Zee TV on March 1, 2025, and now, news has come out that the OTT premiere will also happen on the same day. This means both the TV and OTT premieres will take place on March 1, 2025.
This is a new trend where makers are planning simultaneous TV and digital releases, and in Telugu cinema, Sankranthiki Vasthunnam is the first film to follow this model. Dil Raju produced the film on a budget of Rs 54 crore, and with a net collection of just over Rs 170 crore, the makers earned more than 200% profit. Dil Raju had faced significant losses with his other film, Game Changer, but he managed to recover most of those losses through the success of Sankranthiki Vasthunnam.
Anil Ravipudi is the man behind the film, and he ensured that the storytelling was engaging and family-friendly. As a result, the film attracted a large family audience, and it will be interesting to see how many views Sankranthiki Vasthunnam garners on Zee5.
There is also news that Dil Raju is planning a Hindi remake of the film, with none other than Akshay Kumar in talks for the lead role. Meenakshi Chaudhary and Aishwarya Rajesh played the female leads in this film, which featured music by Bheems Ceciroleo. For now, the OTT release of Sankranthiki Vasthunnam is officially set for March 1, 2025.
