Sankranthiki Vasthunnam OTT release: Zee5 locks a special time to stream the Venkatesh starrer

We, at OTTplay, have already reported that Zee5 has acquired the digital rights and will stream the film from March 1, 2025. The OTT release was delayed for one reason—its TV premiere was also scheduled for the same date on Zee TV. Now, Zee has officially announced that both the TV and OTT premieres will take place simultaneously at 6 PM on March 1, 2025.

This marks the first time in Telugu cinema history that a film will have a simultaneous TV and OTT release. Moving forward, there is speculation that OTT platforms are in talks with TV channels to implement this strategy more frequently. How well this approach will work with major players remains to be seen.

Sankranthiki Vasthunnam to be out on Zee 5

Since Zee is the primary platform securing the rights—and also owns Zee5—it has finalized the TV premiere date accordingly. Sankranthiki Vasthunnam was a massive OTT deal, with Zee5 paying the makers ₹30 crore to acquire the rights, ensuring a safe financial position for the producers even before the film's theatrical release.

Much of the credit goes to director Anil Ravipudi, who delivered an entertaining narrative while bringing back vintage Venkatesh on screen after a long time. The film's songs also became a sensation, contributing to its strong opening.

A notable aspect of Sankranthiki Vasthunnam is that it was released only in Telugu, yet still managed to earn over ₹300 crore. It remains to be seen how many views the film will garner when it arrives on OTT. Stay tuned for more updates.
