Sankranthiki Vasthunam is a smash hit, having grossed just over Rs 310 crore and still running successfully in a large number of theaters. As the film nears the end of its theatrical run, attention has now shifted to its OTT release.

We at OTTplay have already revealed that ZEE5 acquired the digital rights for a whopping Rs 30 crore and planned to stream the film in the third week of February 2025. Fans eagerly awaited the official OTT release date announcement, which was scheduled for February 14, 2025. However, the makers surprised everyone by revealing that Sankranthiki Vasthunam would premiere on television first before arriving on OTT.
This is an unusual move, as in recent years, films have typically been released on OTT first, followed by a TV premiere months later. However, the makers have struck a deal with Zee, ensuring that the TV version will debut first, followed by the OTT release after a two-week gap. Such a strategy has never been implemented before, leaving audiences curious about its potential impact.

Dil Raju, the producer of the film, has not yet clarified whether this decision was his own or if it was initiated by Zee. Since Sankranthiki Vasthunam is a family drama that resonated strongly with audiences, the makers seem to be targeting TV viewers first, given the dominance of family audiences in that space. Whether this trend will continue in the industry remains to be seen.
Directed by Anil Ravipudi, the film has been celebrated for its engaging characters and heartfelt story. At the grand success meet, lead actor Venkatesh thrilled fans by announcing a sequel slated for release in 2027. Bheems Ceciroleo, who composed the music for the film, will return for the sequel as well.
