Tamil cinema lost a very strong comedy actor after Santhanam began to do only serious heroic roles. However, in a recent media interaction, he expressed his willingness to go back to his roots and do full-fledged comedy movies. He hinted that he is in talks to do spin-offs based on his memorable characters or sequels to successful comedy movies.

He also revealed that he had said yes to playing a side-kick to Tamil superstar Ajith Kumar in director Vignesh Shivan's movie, which didn't materialize.

"Vignesh Shivan offered me a supporting role in the movie, which he was supposed to do with Ajith sir. It's a serious character, but very fun-loving. I liked it very much and I okayed it. But, that film was shelved for some reasons. If I had done that film, you would have seen me in a new dimension," he revealed at a media interaction organized by Cinema Vikatan.

Vignesh Shivan was supposed to direct Ajith Kumar's next movie, which is temporarily titled AK62. Lyca Productions, which is bankrolling the project, however, was reportedly unhappy with the final script that Vignesh turned in. And owing to the creative differences, Lyca fired Vigesh from the project and hired director Magizh Thirumeni for Ajith's 62nd film, which has been has been titled Vidaamuyarchi.

"I didn't talk about that project earlier because we were waiting to announce it on the day when we began shooting it and in the company of Ajith sir. That character will be super no matter when I do it," he said, suggesting that he was still open to taking on the role if and when Vignesh's film went on the floors with another star.

He noted that he has also been discussing with actor Arya and director Rajesh to do Boss Engira Bhaskaran 2. "They are working on the story and script. We want to do something fresh and unique. As soon as we find that kind of a storyline, we will do it," he added.
