Creative satisfaction comes from having additional responsibilities on a film set, says Rakshit Shetty

Rakshit Shetty is only one film old as a director, but the film, Ulidavaru Kandanthe, which is widely considered a cult classic, gave several other filmmakers the courage to present rooted stories on screen. In his career spanning 12-13 years, Rakshit has mostly served as actor in films by other directors, which, he admits, does not excite him much. What he prefers and, drives his creative juices is being a filmmaker and writing his own scripts, he said recently, speaking to the media in Kochi, during the promotions of Sapta Sagaradaache Ello Side B, which is getting a simultaneous release in Kannada, Malayalam, Tamil and Telugu on November 17.
“I get bored on set if I am only acting,” said Rakshit, adding that he is not a fan of this experience of having to wait patiently between shots. The actor-filmmaker also said that he finds it better if he’s been involved in the writing of a film, like, for instance, Kirik Party and Avane Srimannarayana. Then, the actual shooting does not get as cumbersome, he said. Given that he has spent the last two years on the making of Sapta Sagaradaache Ello, and before that quite a bit on 777 Charlie, Rakshit is rearing to get going on his next directorial, Richard Anthony. This is a film that he is supremely excited about, as it will tell the story of his Ulidavaru Kandanthe character Richie before the events of the original film and after too. Richard Anthony is being produced by Hombale Films.
Direction, Rakshit has said earlier, is going to be his go-to for the foreseeable future and he has lined up multiple projects, including a two-part Punyakoti and Midway to Moksha, all of which should keep him busy for a while. In fact, Rakshit is waiting to wind up all his promotional commitments for Sapta Sagaradaache Ello Side B and begin work on Richard Anthony. He had flown to the USA earlier this year to isolate himself and focus on the final draft of the film.
