Kannada actor-filmmaker Rakshit Shetty’s 777 Charlie, which recently won the National Film Award as the Best Kannada film of 2021, was quite the tear-jerker, as audiences shed copious tears for the beautiful bond between his character, Dharma, and the dog, Charlie and what becomes of her, eventually. He is following that up with an intense love story called Sapta Sagaradaache Ello, directed by Hemanth M Rao , which, going by the trailer, also looks like an emotional roller-coaster that will have audiences shed a tear or two.

Rakshit, who is currently promoting the film, which is releasing in two parts, with the first one set to be in theatres on September 1, was recently asked about this image he’s developed by a Kannada news channel. Interestingly, the actor-filmmaker said that if a film can make you cry, it is a beautiful thing. Crying, said Rakshit is a beautiful expression, which people, especially men, very often avoid out of fear that it will meddle with their ‘image’. It’s not seen as a very masculine thing to do. “But otherwise, if you tear up while watching a film, that is actually the most beautiful thing. You are not crying for yourself, but because you feel for someone else. And you are crying in the dark in a movie hall, so no one will necessarily know or judge you,” he told Vijay Karnataka.

Sapta Sagaradaache Ello’s first part, which the team has called Side A, pairs Rakshit with Rukmini Vasanth. There’s a beautiful love story at play between his Manu and her Priya, but there also appears to be a class conflict and a crime, which then tears them apart. Side A will explore what becomes of Manu and Priya , while Side B then cuts to 10 years later, with a world-weary Manu travelling with Surabhi (Chaithra J Achar). Rakshit had a massive physical transformation for this bit of the film, for which he gained 20 kilos, cut his hair to a stubble and sported wound scars on his face.
