Transwoman actress Anjali Ameer, who made her acting debut in Mammootty’s Peranbu a few years ago, has now completed shooting for her Malayalam film Bernard, which is directed by Devaprasad Narayanan.
The movie, which has Appani Sarath as its male protagonist, is touted to be a psychological drama with the actor playing a couple. Sarath plays its titular character, who is suspicious of his wife.
The film, which was shot during the pandemic, is extensively set inside a house and also has Joby, Mathew Joseph and Vasanthan in pivotal roles. While Anjali’s character is of an outgoing woman, who maintains cordial relationships with her friends from schoold and college days, Bernard’s delusions cause a friction in their relationship.
The first look poster of the movie was released a day ago and showed a couple of fish trapped in a glass jar – highlighting Bernard’s core theme.
Sarath, meanwhile, has also completed shooting for Adivasi, which is based on tribal youth Madhu who was killed by a mob in 2018 after being accused of theft. The movie was directed by Vijeesh Mani, who had previously helmed Jayaram’s Sanskrit film Namo.
In an earlier interview with OTTplay , Sarath told us that he had prepared a lot to play the character of Madhu in the movie, which is related to hunger and nature conservation. “I had to shed a few pounds and also get in to mindspace of someone who is emotionally disturbed to play the part in the film,” he said.
The actor, who had also written and directed the YouTube series Monica during the pandemic lockdown, has also wrapped up shooting for debutant Vinesh Devasia’s Innalekal, which also has Jayesh Janardhanan and Arun Kumar. He also plays the main antagonist in Sasikumar’s upcoming Tamil movie titled Common Man, which is gearing up for release.
