The first week of Sardar's release saw a successful box office performance in its native Tamil Nadu. The film starts the second week stronger; thanks to favourable reviews and excellent word-of-mouth.

According to industry insiders, the number of screens in the second week is increasing and is predicted to reach 500, up from 380 in the first week. The movie made over Rs 1.9 crore on day 8, bringing the total domestic take to a high of about Rs 40 crore. With earnings of over Rs 30 crore in just eight days, Sardar is doing well in Tamil Nadu.

The makers are optimistic that the movie would surpass the Rs 100 crore mark at the box office by the end of the second week, due to the booking patterns over the weekend. Additionally, the Telugu version is also doing well and opened with over Rs 10 crore in revenue. The best opening for Karthi was Sardar, which went on to have Tamil Nadu's biggest solo gross. Before Diwali, on October 21, the movie opened in theatres; alongside Sivakarthikeyan's Prince.

In the spy thriller, Karthi played both the father and the son. The makers of Sardar announced a sequel a few days after the film's release, and PS Mithran will return to helm the follow-up. Even though the climax of Sardar hinted at a sequel, the producers' official declaration was welcome news for Karthi and his fans.

After Irumbu Thirai, Mithran told Karthi about the concept of Sardar, a theatre performer who can play several characters and is also a spy. Karthi thought that was appealing and nodded right away.

Sardar, a Prince Pictures production, features Rajisha Vijayan, Chunkey Pandey, and Raashii Khanna, in pivotal roles. George C Williams did the film's cinematography, and GV Prakash composed the soundtrack.

Along with the Sardar sequel, Karthi will star in the follow-ups to Kaithi, Aayirathil Oruvan, and Ponniyin Selvan. Further, he has an untitled film, directed by Murugan of Gypsy-fame.
