Sardar Udham, Bollywood’s most recent tribute to one of India’s most ardent patriots who avenged the deaths of Indians during the Jallianwala Bagh massacre, is all set to hit OTT platforms this month.

What is Sardar Udham about?

The upcoming biographical film is based on Indian revolutionary Udham Singh who is perhaps most well-known for the assassination of Punjab's Lieutenant Governor Michael O'Dwyer in 1940. Dwyer was a key figure behind the tragic Jallianwala Bagh massacre of 1919 that killed and injured hundreds of unarmed Indians.

Singh had carried out the assassination as a way to avenge those deaths after 20 years of the massacre. The patriot had spent almost two decades preparing to settle scores and was executed for his crime in 1940.

Who are the actors in Sardar Udham?

The film features Vicky Kaushal in the titular role. Previously, Kaushal had revealed that he had tried to do justice to the character as well as he could, saying that a lot of physical as well as mental preparation had gone into the role. He had said he wanted to capture the agony and courage of the late revolutionary authentically.

In addition to Kaushal, the film also features Shaun Scott, Stephen Hogan, Banita Sandhu, Kirsty Averton and Amol Parasher in pivotal roles.

Who has directed Sardar Udham?

The film is directed by Shoojit Sircar, who has several hits to his name including Vicky Donor (2012) and Piku (2015).

In a conversation with The Times of India, Sircar had revealed that the film was 21 years in the making. The filmmaker had been touched by the story of the massacre when he visited the place in 1999. He said he wanted more people to know the story of the brave revolutionary through his work, saying that Singh’s message is one which the world should not forget.
