Sarkaru Vaari Paata box office collection Day 1: Mahesh Babu's film only second to RRR in many areas, earns Rs 36 crore in Telugu states

Aamir Khan, while discussing the parameters to judge an actor's stardom in an interview, had once said that the collections of a star's flop film is a true indicator of their box-office pull. It's a relevant statement because it takes some star value to bring crowds to theatres despite the content not staying upto the mark. Especially in the case of Mahesh Babu, whose recent films Sarileru Neekevvaru, Maharshi and now Sarkaru Vaari Paata aren't exactly the best films in his career in terms of story or storytelling, has still managed to create ripples at the box office with every release.

Sarkaru Vaari Paata has taken off well at the theatres yesterday, registering record openings, standing only second to RRR in most regions in Telugu states and even USA. The film has collected an impressive share of Rs 36.63 crore on the first day in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana. In Nizam region (mostly Telangana), the action entertainer earned Rs 12.24 crore, edging the likes of Bheemla Nayak (Rs 11.85 crore), Pushpa (Rs 11.44 crore) and Radhe Shyam (Rs 10.8 crore). However, in the ceded areas, the film, which garnered Rs 4.7 crore share, couldn't break Mahesh Babu's own record with Sarileru Neekevvaru. 

The Parasuram Petla directorial collected nearly Rs 6 crore in the East and West Godavari regions (put together), while managing Rs 3.73 crore in Uttarandhara. In Guntur, Krishna and Nellore districts, the actioner earned Rs 5.83 crore, Rs 2.58 crore and Rs 1.56 crore respectively. On the whole in Telugu states, at Rs 36.63 crore, Sarkaru Vaari Paata is the fifth in the list of registering highest shares on day 1. RRR, Baahubali 2, Saaho and Sye Raa are the only films ahead of the Mahesh Babu starrer. It remains to be seen if the film could continue its momentum through the first weekend, especially after the mixed reviews.

In the US, where it was distributed by Flyhigh Cinemas, Shloka Entertainments, Classics Cinemas, Sarkaru Vaari Paata, as per reports received this morning, has grossed a little more than $1.2 million and the number is expected to be even bigger when the final day 1 figures are made official. Keerthy Suresh plays the female lead in the film while Samuthirakani, Vennela Kishore, Subbaraju, Nadhiya, Naga Babu, Tanikella Bharani essay important roles. R Madhie has cranked the camera for the film while Marthand K Venkatesh is the editor. S Thaman has scored the music and AS Prakash is the art director. The film is slated to release on OTT via Amazon Prime Video in the later half of June.
