Sarkaru Vaari Paata star Mahesh Babu on his Bollywood debut: I don't think they can afford me

Mahesh Babu recently launched the Telugu version of Major’s trailer today. The Sarkaru Vaari Paata star, who is also a producer on the film, recently opened up on whether he would be stepping into Bollywood anytime soon.

In his interaction with the media during Major’s trailer launch event on Monday, Mahesh was asked about his Bollywood debut plans. The Tollywood star revealed that although he had gotten a number of offers for Hindi projects, he did not think that the industry could ‘afford him’. “I don't want to waste my time working in an industry which can't afford me,” the actor said.

Mahesh also talked about the love and respect he received from the South Indian film industry as well. He said that the stardom he got from the same was so ‘huge’ that he had never even considered leaving the industry for another. The actor talked about how it had always been his dream of doing films and ‘becoming bigger’. As his dream was coming true, the actor said he could not be happier.

Inspired by true events, Major is based on the story of Major Sandeep Unnikrishnan, an army officer who was martyred in the 2008 Mumbai terrorist attacks. The film stars Adivi Sesh in the lead, with Sesh also writing the script. Saiee Manjrekar and Sobhita Dhulipala also essay pivotal roles in the film, helmed by Sashi Kiran Tikka. The film will be released in Hindi, Telugu and Malayalam on June 3. While Mahesh released the film’s Telugu trailer yesterday, the Hindi and Malayalam versions of the trailer was released by Salman Khan and Prithviraj Sukumaran.

Meanwhile, Mahesh Babu returns to the big screen after almost two years, in Sarkaru Vaari Paata. The film, directed by Parasuram and produced by Mythri Movie Makers, also features Keerthy Suresh and Samuthirakani. Sarkaru Vaari Paata will be released on May 12.
