In recent years, filmmaker Karan Johar’s Dharma Productions has been coming up with some varied films, such as Lakshya Lalwani's Kill, R Madhavan's Aap Jaisa Koi, or the upcoming film Sarzameen. The movie stars Prithviraj Sukumaran, Kajol, and Ibrahim Ali Khan in the lead roles. Despite being such a huge production with an ensemble cast, Sarzameen is making a digital debut on JioHotstar, rather than a theatrical release. Let's take a look at why you must not miss out on this political thriller on July 25 on JioHotstar, that you can also watch via OTTplay Premium!
While Prithviraj Sukumaran is a bona fide star and filmmaker in Malayalam cinema, his Bollywood ventures have been quite limited! The 42-year-old actor debuted in Hindi cinema with Aiyyaa in 2012, opposite Rani Mukerji. Later, he made appearances in Naam Shabana (2017) and Bade Miyan Chote Miyan (2024). Now, Prithviraj is once again back in Bollywood with Sarzameen, that too in the lead role, opposite Kajol.
In the trailer, we saw Prithviraj Sukumaran and Kajol as husband and wife, and their stellar performances have already connected with the audience. It would be incredible to watch these artistes, known for their acting prowess, share screen space. While this is not the first time viewers will watch Kajol as the mother of an adult child, it would mark Prithivraj’s first such performance, especially in Hindi cinema.
Ibrahim Ali Khan, the son of Saif Ali Khan, made his debut with Nadaaniyan on Netflix earlier this year. But the young actor's rugged avatar in Sarzameen has created much buzz already. Some netizens even opined that Ibrahim Ali Khan should have made his debut with Sarzameen instead, and we couldn't agree more! He plays the son of Kajol and Prithviraj Sukumaran’s characters in the film.
The intense military drama is set against the backdrop of Kashmir, exploring themes of patriotism and sacrifice for the nation. The film revolves around an Army officer, who is caught between the love for his family and duty towards his nation. Along with being a political thriller, the film will also explore the emotional turmoil, family conflicts, betrayal, and parental love.
Kayoze Irani is venturing into Hindi cinema, following in the footsteps of his veteran talented father, Boman Irani. However, unlike his actor father, Kayoze is making his debut as a filmmaker with Sarzameen. There is much anticipation as to what the young filmmaker has in store for the audience.
