Sarzameen's first song Ve Mahiya is finally out, and the track is all about the visuals. Sung by B Praak, Ve Mahiya is the recreated version of Bulleh Shah's poetry. The poetry was previously adapted by the Wadali brothers, and it is safe to say that the Sarzameen version is not on the same level.

Sarzameen first track Ve Mahiya - visuals over the song

Sarzameen song Ve Mahiya is not the best recreated version of Bulleh Shah's poetry/qawwali. If talking about the Sarzameen version, it is the visuals that make you want to tune into the song. The track, in itself, could end up being disappointing to those who know the other versions.

What are the visuals in the Sarzameen track, Ve Mahiya?

The song Ve Mahiya follows the story of a family that is torn in its views. While the father (played by Prithviraj) is a soldier, his son (Ibrahim Ali Khan) has turned into a terrorist. Torn between family and duty, the two are often caught fighting one another over the duty they have committed themselves to. Although they both try to avert the fight for as long as possible, there comes a point where the father-son duo has to face their reality. This is a harsh reality, because one ends up dead (or can they avert it?) Kajol is also someone torn between being a good wife and citizen of her country, and being a mother.

Netizens’ initial reaction to Ve Mahiya

Back when the makers teased Ve Mahiya with a song teaser, netizens were furious to find out that Bulleh Shah’s qawwali was being adapted by Bollywood. Even after the song’s release, there is a section that is unhappy with the Charkha verse crooned by B. Praak. Ve Mahiya is a poetry about reaching out to a beloved, and waiting for them with hope, patience and longing; living minimally till their return brings life back into them.

Sarzameen marks the directorial debut of Boman Irani’s son, Kayoze Irani. The Karan Johar-produced film is scheduled for direct-to-OTT release on JioHotstar via OTTplay Premium on July 25, 2025.
