Bengali filmmaker Churni Ganguly’s acclaimed film Tarikh, which won a National Award for Best Dialogue in 2019, is set to premiere on Hoichoi on May 8.
Helmed by the National Award-winner, Tarikh revolves around the lives and beliefs of three friends - an idealist, a realist and a conformist. Saswata Chatterjee, who played the role of Bob Biswas in Vidya Balan’s Kahaani, essays the lead role in the film that also has Raima Sen, Ritwick Chakraborty and Kaushik Ganguly.
Besides the National Award, the film also won the Jury Special Mention Award at the 24th Kolkata International Film Festival, and the Best Narrative Feature, Best Song, and Best Indie Feature honours at the Los Angeles Film Awards 2019. The movie was also the official selection at the BRICS Film Festival 2019, Brazil.
Tarikh, which released in theatres in 2019, marked Churni Ganguly’s second movie in Bengali cinema after Nirbashito, which was India's Oscar entry for the Best Foreign Film category in 2015.
Meanwhile, Hoichoi’s vice president Soumya Mukherjee said that 40% of their overall subscription revenue came from international contributions, “where people are most likely to consume Bengali classics and new world premieres”. “This is simply the start, we have an exciting line-up for our user base in the coming months, where there is something for everyone at Hoichoi,” he explained.c
