It's not every time you see an Indian film being appreciated at the Oscars, apart from a few being shortlisted for nominations. Now, the YouTube page of the Oscars shared a video from none other than Suriya Starrer Jai Bhim. This is a huge feat as it is the first time a Tamil film has been featured on the Academy's YouTube page. The film is based on a hard-hitting subject and got a lot of people across the country to do the talking.
While sharing the video, the YouTube page described it by stating that Jai Bhim weaves in real-life case studies led by activist-lawyer Chandru, who worked tirelessly to bring justice to Tamil Nadu's indigenous tribes. TJ Gnanavel, the writer-director, explains how the story was conceived and realized.
In the film, a pregnant woman from a remote tribal tribe looks for her husband, who has gone missing from police custody. As their voice, a High Court advocate rises in support to find her husband and seek justice for them.
Jyothika and Suriya produced the film, which is currently streaming on Amazon Prime Video. Jai Bhim also features Lijomol Jose, Manikandan, Rajisha Vijayan, Prakash Raj, and Rao Ramesh in supporting roles.
With a score of 9.3/10, Jai Bhim is now the top user-rated film on IMDb. While becoming the first Indian picture to do so, it outperformed The Shawshank Redemption (1994) and The Godfather (1972). (1972). It was also the year's most popular Indian film on IMDb. In India, Jai Bhim became the most-searched film of 2021. According to a survey issued by Twitter, it was also fourth on the list of films with the most tweets in 2021.
Even several media personnel and celebrities couldn't stop lauding the film for its hard-hitting subject and the impact it has been creating among the masses.
