Mathi Maran, who is the nephew of filmmaker Vetrimaaran, is ready to make his directorial debut. He has now opened up about the inspiration for making Selfie, which has GV Prakash and Gautham Vasudev Menon as the protagonist and antagonist, respectively.

At an event organised by the makers to launch the trailer and songs, he said that he was looking to buy a car and talked to someone who revealed they bought their first car while in their second year of college and sold it in their third year.

From him, I got to know that he was able to buy a car with the money he had made as a broker selling seats for a college, Maaran said.

When he asked the person why he had to sell the car in his third year, they said that ill-gotten money would not last and only money earned through hard work would last.

This conversation got the director interested in the flourishing business that happens in the education sector, which he turned into a film.

In the movie, GV Prakash plays a college student who turns into a broker, while Varsha Bollamma plays the female lead in the movie, which has been produced by D Sabareesh under the DG Film Company.

While this is the directorial debut of Mathi Maran, he has previously assisted Vetrimaaran in his films. The film’s makers had earlier announced that Selfie would hit theatres on April 1.

GV Prakash, the composer turned actor, was last seen in Vasantha Balan's film, Jail. He has several films lined up as an actor and over 10 films as a music composer.
