Although the second day's numbers appear to be an improvement over the first, it appears unlikely that Akshay Kumar starrer Selfiee will gain enough momentum in the following days.

With his brand-new movie Selfiee, Akshay Kumar has begun 2023 after having a depressing year at the box office in 2022. The film also stars  Emraan Hashmi and Raj Mehta directed the movie, which released in theatres Wednesday, February 24.

Selfiee opened to a dismal Rs 2.55 crore on its first day at the box office, and it hasn't fared much better on its second. The movie made Rs 3.30 crore on its second day, which is a slight but not very noticeable rise, according to the industry tracker Sacnilk.

Given its star-studded cast, which also includes Emraan Hashmi, and backing from none other than Karan Johar, the movie was anticipated to earn more money at the box office. Bollywood seems to be back in the doldrums, barring Shah Rukh Khan's Pathaan, which surpassed the Rs 1000 crore mark globally. Even last week's release, Shehzada, performed poorly at the box office.

Trade analysts were shocked by Akshay Kumar's most recent failure because they expected Selfiee to at least debut with an opening of Rs 4-5 crore. Driving License, a Malayalam drama, was remade as Selfiee. It was a commercial success and featured actors Prithviraj Sukumaran and Suraj Venjaramoodu in the key parts.

Akshay Kumar, Emraan Hashmi, Nushrat Bharuccha, and Diana Penty play the lead characters in the hindi adaptation. It's backed by Karan Johar's Dharma Production along with Magic Frames, Prithviraj Productions, Cape of Good Films and Star Studios.
