Director Prabhu Solomon's last outing Sembi is all set for its OTT premiere on Disney + Hotstar on February 3. The latest we hear is that the film, which hit screens only in Tamil during its theatrical release, will stream in Malayalam, Telugu and Kannada as well on the digital platform. With this, the makers are planning to reach out to a larger audience.

The film, starring Kovai Sarala in the lead, revolves around a grandmother and her granddaughter living in the hills of Kodaikanal. It follows the journey of a grandmother's pursuit for justice for her granddaughter who gets raped by a bunch of men. She even goes to the extent of committing a murder, after which the grandmother and granddaughter duo board a bus to Dindigul, where they meet a lawyer, who helps her to get justice through the POCSO (The Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act, 2012) Act.

Sembi was one of the last releases of 2022, and the film won much appreciation from the audience and critics. The star cast includes Kovai Sarala, Ashwin Kumar Lakshmikanthan, Thambi Ramaiah, Nanjil Sampath, Pala Karuppaiah and G Gnanasambandam. Kovai Sarala's performance won many hearts and many called it a fitting comeback for the veteran actor.

Disney + Hotstar, which is all set to stream the film, revealed that the song Aathi En Mela song was shot 1760 feet below Kodaikanal hills and that the cast and crew had to create their own path to bring the immersive visuals. Music for the film is by Nivas K Prasanna, cinematography by M Jeevan and editing by Buvan. Art direction is by Vijay Thennarasu.

Sembi released alongside Trisha's Raangi and Aishwarya Rajesh's Driver Jamuna. Interestingly, all the films were led by women. Nayanthara's Connect had released a week earlier, thus making the last leg of Tamil releases, a women-centric one.
