Semih Kaplanoglu’s Commitment Hasan has been selected as Turkey's official entry to the Best International Feature Oscar this year. 

The film follows a fruit farmer is resistant to an electrity pole being planted in the middle of his garden. 

Commitment Hasan had its premiere in Un Certain Regard at this year's Cannes Film Festival, and has been screened at Chicago, Sao Paulo, Karlovy Vary, Jerusalem and Antalya Golden Orange festivals, according to Variety. 

The film was also chosen to represent Turkey in Oscars 2019. Kaplanoglu's film Honey was selected in 2010.

India has chosen Koozhangal (Pebbles), a rural drama backed by actor Nayanthara and Vignesh Sivan as its official entry to the Oscars. The film centres on the pursuit of an alcoholic father and his young son who left them to escape her husband's abuse. The relationship between the father and son is portrayed during this ordeal.

The Academy Awards will reveal the International Feature shortlist December 21. The final five nominees will be declared on February 8 next year.
