Asa Butterfield, the male lead of the prominent Netflix show Sex Education, tweeted yesterday that he is 'fed up with his fans'. The actor was complaining online about his fans who were taking his pictures without his permission. The actor was upset because he had to run away from his fans as well as the paparazzi and had to hail a cab to escape the crowd.
The actor then proceeded to ask his fans to “leave him be” in public and not to annoy him. However, Twitter and his fans are divided on the subject. While some asked Asa to wear a hoodie or jacket, some others were more aggressive and asked him “not to forget the show’s fans”. Some defended the star and his right to personal space.
Asa Butterfield gained overnight fandom with the Netflix original series Sex Education. In the series, he plays a socially awkward teenager and son of a famous sexologist, who starts a sex clinic in the school itself to advise the students on matters on which they could never get “advise”. The series became a sensation with its bold portrayal of taboo subjects and gained global acclaim. The series also stars Emma Mackey and Gillian Anderson in prominent roles.
The third season of the series premiered recently on September 17 and was welcomed warmly by fans. The season also gained critical acclaim for the portrayal of a homosexual relationship between two side characters. The third season was rumoured to be the final one because there were talks about Emma Mackey leaving the series, but there hasn’t been any confirmation on the same.
