The series, released in 2019, is credited for breaking stereotypes and talking about the taboo subject of sex. It gained wide attention in India especially because of the lack of sex education in academics.
The series follows the misadventures of Otis Milburn, a troubled teenager with a troubling mother and troubled love life, played by Asa Butterfield. Otis’s mother Jean is a sex therapist, and he feels embarrassed about it. But later with help of his friend Maeve Wiley, he starts a secret sex therapy and consultation clinic inside the school. With Otis’s knowledge about the subject and with Maeve’s contacts, they become famous. But they will have to earn their share of fame too. The series follows their antics and adventures.
The series will pick it up from the second season finale where Jean discovers that she is pregnant with her ex-boyfriend Jakob’s child. They broke up before the season finale and Jean is clearly not happy with the news. Otis’s attempt to reconcile with Maeve after their quarrel is thwarted by Issac, the new neighbour who is interested in Maeve.
Emma Mackey plays Maeve Wiley, a socially awkward but strong and independent girl. Emma Mackey’s portrayal of Maeve as a troubled teenager often hesitant to face her emotions or express herself was well-received and appreciated by the critics as well as fans. The series gave the actress a wide fan base among the netizens and her character Maeve with a cool head and sharp tongue became a favourite character in the show.
