Shaakuntalam: Samantha looks ethereal as Shakuntala in the first look poster of her epic drama

Samantha is all pepped up and excited for the release of her next, Shaakuntalam, the first ever mythological drama in her career, directed by Gunasekhar. Based on Kalidasa's adaptation of an episode from the Aadi Parva of the Mahabharata, the film is produced by Neelima Guna and has music by Mani Sharma. The makers have released the first look of its lead actress Samantha as Shakuntala today.

"Presenting ..Nature’s beloved.. the Ethereal and Demure.. “Shakuntala” from #Shaakuntalam 🤍 #ShaakuntalamFirstLook," Samantha shared on her social media handles. Samantha in the poster is a sight for sore eyes as she's losing herself amidst nature, surrounded by greenery, flora and fauna, with a set of flowers pinned to her hair. 

Dev Mohan is cast as Dushyanta, Kabir Duhan Singh plays an Asura while veteran actor Mohan Babu steps into the shoes of sage Durvasa in the film. The film also marks the acting debut of Allu Arjun's daughter Allu Arha, who will be seen as Prince Bharata. Prawin Pudi is the editor of Shaakuntalam with Sekhar V Joseph handling the cinematography. 

Shaakuntalam's shoot, post-production formalities are more or less complete and the film may aim for a release in the next couple of months across all South Indian languages and Hindi. Yashoda and Kaathu Vaakula Rendu Kaadhal are among other release of Samantha in 2022. The actress had made her OTT debut with Sam Jam on aha and shot to fame in the digital space with The Family Man Season 2 in 2021.
