Shaakuntalam: The Samantha Ruth Prabhu-starrer to incur heavy losses. Here's what we know

Shaakutalam is director Gunasekhar's dream project in his career and he invested big money on the film. Dil Raju joined in as a co-producer and gave the film a good hype release wise. As per the news, Gunasekhar has spent close to sixty four crores on the period drama which was high on VFX and 3D.

Initially the film was made on a budget of 40 crores and thanks to 3D, Pan-India promotions and release, the makers spent 24 crores on the film starring Samantha and Dev Mohan. Well, the film has started on a very bad note as it is likely to make only 7.5 crores in its first weekend India wide.

As per the estimate, the makers have recovered 40 crores successfully from various rights of the film. But as the film is not performing well, the makers are likely to lose close to 14 crores as per the latest reports. Gunsekhar's outdated narration hampered the film's outcome big time. The early premieres of the film also did not work in the favour and bad talk emerged right away.

As the result is also mixed, the makers have also not indulged in any sort of post-release promotions. Samantha has done well in the film which was banking on her stardom. But sadly, things have fallen flat as the weekend occupancy is quite dull in Telugu states. We need to see if Dil Raju advances the OTT release and makes some more money from the film. Let's wait and watch.
