Samantha Ruth Prabhu’s highly awaited Shaakuntalam finally hit theatres on April 14. Cinephiles had a lot to look forward to in the film, and had been waiting for its release with bated breath ever since its enchanting first look came out, featuring Samantha looking radiant as ever as the titular character. The film, touted to be director Gunasekhar’s magnum opus, also marked the acting debut of Allu Arjun’s young daughter Arha. The film told the epic story of Shakuntala, Viswamitra and Menaka's daughter, who was raised by Kanva in the depths of a forest, and how she fell in love with king Dushyanta. As soon as the film hit theatres, fans seemed to flock to theatres to catch the film on the big screen, and many took to Twitter to express their opinion on the same.
A number of fans seemed to be absolutely smitten with Samantha in the titular role, and they could not stop raving about her performance. “The film is whole another experience when it comes to utter magnificence. We love it how the actress has time and again offered versatility and this film is a sheer proof of that”, wrote one user. “I was awestruck everytime when Sam appeared OnScreen! She was really pretty, graceful and elegant through out the film”, wrote another. Yet another said that Samantha stole the show.
Besides Samantha, yet another performer that won hearts was none other than little Arha. Many considered her presence one of the highlights of the film. A number of people were charmed by the debutant actress.
However, the film did not manage to impress everyone. There were quite a few people who voiced their disappointment with the film. “It is a badly made film but not a bad film”, wrote one user.
Shaakuntalam is now showing in theatres. The film will be available for streaming on Amazon Prime Video after its theatrical run.
