Upon its release back in December 2023, Rajkumar Hirani's Dunki went on to mint money at the box office but people were divided in their opinions about the film after watching it. Now, several videos of Indians being forcibly removed from the United States have started appearing in our news feeds on a daily basis as a result of President Donald Trump's immigration enforcement. As per the latest reports, someone mentioned that the film that dealt with the same topic would make a comeback to theatres, given that the film focused on illegal immigration.
As per Midday, rumour has it that the producers of the Shah Rukh Khan and Taapsee Pannu film, Red Chillies Entertainment, are already planning a re-release. A source told the tabloid that the issue of Indian immigrants being forcibly removed from their homes in appalling conditions has rekindled discussions surrounding the theme of Dunki. Its true purpose, as with all of Hirani's films, was to shed light on a genuine struggle rather than merely be a box office smash. A source claims that the film's story feels urgent given the current events.
SRK portrayed Hardy in Dunki, a character who aids his friends from Punjab in their illegal donkey migration to the UK in pursuit of a better life. The film showed the dangers of the donkey path as well as the difficulties encountered by unauthorised migrants abroad.
An industry insider also told the tabloid that distributors are interested. The makers are considering releasing it as soon as this month.
While Hirani was unaware of any such preparations, he did express his happiness at the possibility of a re-release. For a long time, people from Punjab have been illegally migrating. All it takes is for the rest of the nation to start paying attention now. Meanwhile, Red Chillies Entertainment has not responded to the report yet.
