Shah Rukh Khan is back at the Kolkata International Film Festival and how! The actor who is all set to return on the screen with Pathaan attended the inauguration of the 28th edition of the festival on Thursday and swept the audience off its feet with his charm, wit, and humour while delivering his speech.

Shah Rukh was the Guest of Honour of the evening. He reached Kolkata in the afternoon. He reached the venue a little late – minutes after the main event was initiated by anchors June Maliah and Shahen Chattopadhyay. June took no time to feel the tension among the audience as SRK’s seat remained empty for a while. “Don’t worry. Badshah is on his way,” she declared and the viewers at the Netaji Indoor Stadium cheered with full gusto.

Shah Rukh came, spoke, and won hearts in no time. In his usual humour, he said, “I made Rani Mukerji (who also came with him) write my speech in Bengali. To aha or main achha bolun to meri wah wah kijiyega. If I do it badly then it’s Rani’s fault,” the audience bursts into laughter. He started his speech in Bengali. “Prothome Kolkatay eshe Khub bhalo lagche. Didi, Dada, Kolkatar Jamaibabu, the great Shri Amitabh Bachchan, Jaya Aunty, ederke ei manche dekhe Amar Khub bhalo lagche (First, I’m delighted to be here in Kolkata. I am pleased to see Didi, Dada, Kolkata’s son-in-law, the great Amitabh Bachchan, and Jaya Aunty on this stage.” He also said that it has been a while since he met them. “I’m also delighted to see my friend beautiful Rani.” He then greeted all the dignitaries, including Mahesh Bhatt, Arijit Singh, Kumar Shanu, and others, and then addresses the audience and said that he is the happiest to see them all.

As the ambassador of West Bengal, he welcomed the delegates and participants at the festival. “I assure you the hospitality and love you will get in Kolkata will be most memorable,” he said.
