Shah Rukh Khan’s Jawan casting director Mukesh Chhabra struggled with finding actors for THIS role

Out of the many things that Jawan is being praised for, one is the casting. Shah Rukh Khan fits the role perfectly and so do Nayanthara, Vijay Sethupathi, Priyamani or even Sanya Malhotra. For that matter, Deepika Padukone, despite her small role, also leaves a huge impact. However, there was one character that casting director Mukesh Chhabra was finding tough to find. Actually, there were three of those characters.

Which were those?

Mukesh took a long time to find the three girls of Jawan. This includes Ashlesha Thakur, who plays Vijay Sethupathi’s daughter in Atlee’s Jawan.

What’s the connection?

For the uninitiated, Ashlesha is the famous girl from The Family Man. She plays Priyamani and Manoj Bajpayee’s daughter in the popular web series. Priyamani is also a part of the film and is associated with SRK’s character.

What did Mukesh say?

During his interview with Indian Express, Mukesh Chhabra revealed that there was a lot of thought that went behind casting the three girls. He shared, “There had to be a fresh approach, a lot of thought went into it. Like for example, Ashlesha Thakur, who plays Vijay Sethupathi’s daughter and is in the metro sequence.”

The casting director-filmmaker-turned-actor further shared how Ashlesha has grown but since people have seen her pairing with Priyamani, they wanted to play with it. “I go mad about casting, I love every little detail of it,” he said. Mukesh took more than a year to cast approximately 165 actors who are a part of the film.

“Out of the six girls, Priyamani is known in Bollywood as well as South, Girija Oak is known in Marathi and Hindi cinema, Sanya Malhotra is a popular Bollywood actor, and then I found three new girls in Sanjeeta Bhattacharya, Lehar Khan, Aaliyah Qureishi. There also had to be a surprise element, which was Sunil Grover. People have seen him do only funny characters, but him turning a villain and beating Nayanthara,” he added.

Apart from Jawan, Mukesh is also a part of Dunki, featuring Shah Rukh Khan. The movie is helmed by Rajkumar Hirani and is slated to release in December. Taapsee Pannu is the female lead in the movie.
