Mumbai has seen a very interesting development when it came to Shah Rukh Khan’s Pathaan. The film, which is the highest grossing movie of 2023 thus by far, is now the fourth highest grossing film in Mumbai. It is to be noted that this happens at a time when Mumbai does not show as much contribution to the Box Office collection as it once did.

Shah Rukh Khan’s Pathaan is the only Hindi film which released in the post-pandemic era and has become the highest grosser. When it comes to only post-pandemic films, this one wins even if Ajay Devgn’s Drishyam 2 lands on the list.

If one does not consider the Hindi versions of Baahubali 2 and KGF: Chapter 2, then Ajay Devgn and Shah Rukh Khan are still in competition. In fact, Ajay’s pre-pandemic release, Tanhaji: The Unsung Warrior, is the third highest (first highest only Hindi) grossing film in Mumbai ever. The film minted Rs. 143.85 crores in its lifetime Box Office, according to a report on Box Office India.

Pathaan came a close second by earning as much as Rs. 137.25 crores from Mumbai alone. The film is hands down giving competition to some of the most loved movies ever, including Aamir Khan’s Dangal and PK and Salman Khan’s Tiger Zinda Hai.

Pathaan crossed the lifetime Box Office collections of Aamir Khan’s movies, Dangal and PK. They had earned Rs. 104.26 crores and Rs. 104.21 crores respectively.

Salman Khan’s second from the Tiger franchise, Tiger Zinda Hai, had earned Rs. 103.40 crores back in 2018. Now that the third part is ready and up for release on Diwali, one can only wait and see if it can beat this record.

RRR, despite being a rave at the Oscars 2023, did not mint as much money in Mumbai. Earning Rs. 93.44 crores, the film is the ninth highest grossing. It is also to be noted that the film did not release only in Hindi.

Ranbir Kapoor’s Tu Jhoothi Main Makkaar did not make it to the list but his highest grossing film of 2018, Sanju, did. The film had a lifetime collection of Rs. 101.86 crores.

Ajay Devgn’s Drishyam 2, which is also a post-pandemic release, is the 10th highest grossing film in Mumbai. The movie earned Rs. 93.23 crores at the Box Office.
