Homebound, starring Ishaan Khatter, Janhvi Kapoor, and Vishal Jethwa, has now been chosen as India's official entry for the Best International Feature Film category at the 2026 Academy Awards, following receiving a standing ovation at the 50th Toronto International Film Festival. However, upon its theatrical release in India, the film has been underperforming at the box office. While critics and audience have showered praise on the plot and performances, box office numbers have been frustrating. Amid this, Shahid Kapoor showered praise on his brother Ishaan and penned a beautiful note.

Amid low box office numbers for Homebound, Shahid Kapoor showered praise on Ishaan Khatter for his outstanding performance in the film. He said that he is proud of his brother and wrote a heartwarming note.
Shahid shared a picture of him hugging Ishaan and penned, "This boy is an artist that’s homebound. @ishaankhatter am so proud of you. It’s a joy to see you come into your own as an actor and express your inner self with honestly and commitment. You are going from strength to strength and I can’t tell you how proud I feel. You go get em boy. Show them what you got. Always your proudest cheerleader."

Homebound opened with a frustrating number as it minted Rs. 0.3 crore. On Day 2, it collected Rs. 0.55 crore. As per Sacnilk, India's net collection for the film is Rs. 2.23 crore as of now, while the worldwide collection is Rs. 2.65 crore.

Karan Johar earlier said that he is not sure if he will be able to make another Homebound, as it did not perform well at the box office. Soon after his comment went viral on social media, KJo faced criticism from a section of social media users.
Later, he took to his Instagram Stories to clarify his statement. He said, “I humbly request my friends and members in the media to not misconstrue or misquote my comments on our film Homebound… it was an academic chat on the business of our movies… I am and will always be exceptionally proud of Homebound… it will always shine in our repertoire of films as one of our finest and most sensitively performed and directed films...”
He added that they are actively working towards making their film get a large audience and presence on a global stage and are thrilled with the day-by-day increase in domestic footfalls as well.
