Actor Shahid Kapoor, who is gearing up for his performance with Nora Fatehi at IIFA 2022, recently said that the box office failure of his last film, Jersey does not bother him. The actor said the performance of the sports drama at the box office taught him a lot about the audience and their viewing pattern after the COVID-19 pandemic.
The film Jersey, also starring Mrunal Thakur and Pankaj Kapur, was released in theatres on April 22 after several postponements during the surge in the cases of COVID-19. Even though the actor heaped praises for his performance along with other cast members, the film managed to reportedly earn only Rs 17 crore domestically. A part of the OTTplay review reads: "Kapoor once again delivered the finest performance, which will be remembered for years to come. It was a lot of firsts for the actors in this film, including playing a father onscreen and also playing a man who is more or less his age. Jersey also has a story about "late bloomers" and cricket, which is an interesting subject to be touched upon."
When the actor Shahid Kapoor was asked if he felt disappointed by the box office collection of his film, he told Economic Times he does not feel so and that the film will always be close to his heart. He said the film has got a lot of love and support and the team got to learn a lot too. "It's been two years since COVID and we need to understand how the audience feels. It's time for all of us to learn. Jersey will always be close to my heart, it has taught me that anything can happen in life," he said.
The film follows the story of a cricketer who returns to the game after years, in his 30s to fulfill his son’s dream of having a jersey. The film is a remake of the National Award-winning Telugu film of the same name, starring Nani. The Hindi film is also directed by the Telugu filmmaker, Gowtam Tinnanuri. After the theatrical release, the film is currently streaming on Netflix and is often spotted trending in the top 10 spots.
