As filming for the highly anticipated second season of his critically acclaimed streaming series Farzi begins, Shahid Kapoor has finally made his way back to the sets. The actor confirmed his return to the role of master counterfeiter Sunny by posting a series of behind-the-scenes photos from the set to Instagram.
The actor posted five photos on his social media account, offering a glimpse into his current shooting schedule. "Sunny days are back!! Farzi-ing away!!" Kapoor wrote the caption for the post—a joke that references both his character's name and the show's title.
The shared photographs showcase the actor's preparation and the scale of the production. Kapoor seems to have brought back, with some tweaks, Sunny's rough, bearded look from the pilot. A striking photo depicts the actor in a chair in front of a matte grey Mercedes-Benz G-Class, a car that fits perfectly with the series' depiction of the high-stakes, wealthy crime world.

Photos of the actor standing next to a bus that reads "Singh Vanity" and other large production vehicles imply that filming is happening right now at a major Mumbai studio backlot or outdoor site. Kapoor further demonstrated the teamwork inherent in the Raj & DK production by posting an unscripted photo of himself wearing spectacles as he and other members of the technical crew analysed the video on a monitor.
The most noteworthy addition to Kapoor's update was a blurry, casual selfie starring his co-star Vijay Sethupathi, who portrays Officer Michael, Sunny's antagonist. With a mischievous wink, the photo caption reads, "Spexy men at work!"—a pun on their trademark spectacles. The two actors are clearly enjoying themselves on the sets. Their simultaneous arrival on set confirmed that the core 'cat-and-mouse' pursuit is already beginning.

Season one of Farzi premiered in February 2023 and was a giant success; therefore, the characters are making a triumphant comeback. Thanks to its incisive script and the "cat-and-mouse" relationship between Sunny (Kapoor) and Michael Vedanayagam (Sethupathi), the show quickly became the most-watched Indian original series on Prime Video upon its release.
Season one concluded on a major cliffhanger, with Sunny narrowly fleeing a confrontation on a moving train; storyline specifics for season 2 are yet unknown. Viewers anticipate greater consequences from Sunny's decisions in the upcoming season, as well as intensified competition between the counterfeiters and the specialist task force.
The second season returns under the direction of Raj Nidimoru and Krishna D.K., better known as Raj & DK. With Sethupathi reprising his role as the dogged cop Michael, Bhuvan Arora playing Firoz, Raashii Khanna as the RBI analyst Megha Vyas, and Kay Kay Menon as the criminal kingpin Mansoor Dayal, the original ensemble cast is likely to be back for more.
According to sources in the industry, the show's success on a global scale has led to a substantial increase in production value for the second season. The Family Man and other shows in the "Raj & DK universe" are supposedly going to have crossovers in the future.
Kapoor is about to enter a hectic moment in his career as filming for Farzi Season 2 begins. His most recent film, O'Romeo, directed by Vishal Bhardwaj and released in theatres in February 2026, was a moderate success. Rumour has it that the actor is also finishing up filming Cocktail 2 with co-stars Kriti Sanon and Rashmika Mandanna while balancing all of this work.
Considering the substantial post-production and global dubbing needs usually associated with Raj & DK movies, experts believe that Farzi Season 2 will premiere in late 2026 or early 2027. However, Prime Video has not officially announced a release date for the second season.
