Bollywood has been going through a less than colourful year in regards to box office collection, with a number of big movies failing to make it big in theatres. For this reason, Ranbir Kapoor’s Shamshera came with a lot of fanfare, with makers and fans expecting the movie to go big at the box office. After three days, the movie’s first weekend collection has been consistent, but not massive by any means.
According to production numbers, the movie has made Rs. 11 crore on its first Sunday. The period drama minted Rs. 10.25 and Rs. 10.50 on its first and second days respectively. For a movie mounted on a reported budget of Rs. 150 crore and has long promotions, these are not the numbers that was expected from Shamshera. Having made only Rs. 31.75 crore on its opening weekend, it will be difficult for the Ranbir Kapoor-starrer to go big at the box office.
Directed by Karan Malhotra, the movie also stars Sanjay Dutt and Vaani Kapoor, with the former playing the movie’s villain. Shamshera received less than favourble reviews following its release, and this makes it harder for the movie to pick up pace at the box office.
“The film's major highlight is the man (Ranbir) himself, who carries it proudly on his shoulders and excels at it amazingly. RK goes above and beyond the screenplay, which has been a little underwhelming because of the stretchy sequences,” read the movie’s review on OTTplay.
Also featuring Ronit Roy, Saurabh Shukla and Ashutosh Rana, the movie is set in the late 1800s. With Ranbir playing dual roles, Shamshera is now available in theatres near you.
