The Ranbir Kapoor led period action drama Shamshera is gearing up for a grand release later this week, and fans are expecting it to be a visual experience. The movie’s director, Karan Malhotra, has now opened up about the train sequence that caught everyone’s attention in the trailer.
As reported by Mid Day, Karan Malhotra said that the makers of the movie wanted to ensure that everything in the movie including its action set-pieces needed to be a visual extravaganza and also look like it was from the era. He also revealed that they planned to film the eye-catching action sequence on a real train, but it was not possible to find a train from the 1800s.
Stating that the train used in the movie took about a month to construct and was approximately 400-foot long, he said, “I was adamant about showing how such an action sequence could look grand on the big screen. I also wanted to do it in one take. The entire credit goes to Ranbir for [pulling it off]. After filming the sequence, I remember telling him that he was born to do action films.”
Shamshera, set in the late 1800s, is a story about a hero who fights against the oppressive British rule for the liberation of his people. Bankrolled by Yash Raj Films, the movie also stars Sanjay Dutt, Vaani Kapoor, Ashutosh Rana and Ronit Roy in important roles.
While Sanjay Dutt plays the main antagonist, Ranbir Kapoor will appear in a dual role in the period action drama. Shamshera is set to hit theatres on July 22, and will also be available in IMAX.
