Sharad Kelkar, who rose to fame with television daily soaps like - Saat Phere Saloni Ka Safar (2005-2009), Uttran (2008-2015), Kuch Toh Log Kahenge (2011-2013), Saloni (2017), made his Bollywood debut with Akshaye Khanna’s Hulchul (2004). Despite working in a side role, Kelkar made a niche in the industry. Later his amazing acting skills helped him achieve bigger films like - Laxmii (2020), Tanhaji (2020), Operation Romeo (2022), Har Har Mahadev (2022) and Chor Nikalke Bhaga (2023).
The 47-year-old actor’s performance in Har Has Mahadev garnered critical acclaim and immense applause from the audience. The portrayal of valiant Maratha commander Baji Prabhu Deshpande of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, has been one of the most iconic roles of Kelkar till now. Despite such fandom and appreciation, Sharad feels quite disappointed for not getting bigger roles in Bollywood. According to him, his acting skills are polished enough to get major main lead roles.
While talking to Hindustan Times, Sharad stated that although he feels very lucky to work in Laxmii, Tanhaji, he doesn't understand one thing why the industry doesn't give him various chances. Nowadays he's quite curious what's stopping Bollywood to cast him in bigger roles. However, he speculates there must be some kind of different business going on inside the industry, which he is not aware of.
Nevertheless, Kelkar tried his level best to stay optimistic and give any scoop about inside stories. He concluded the topic by saying that he is a very positive person. He will just wait for his turn. He also agreed to the fact that of course he's not absolutely an amazing actor, but he's obviously very hard working. He will stay calm and keep waiting for the audience to believe in him.
However, Sharad Kelkar was last seen in Rohit Shetty's debut web series - Indian Police Force (2024) alongside Sidharth Malhotra, Shilpa Shetty Kundra, Vivek Oberoi, Nikitin Dheer and Shweta Tiwari. He will be next seen in Rajkummar Rao's Srikanth biopic, in a pivotal role.
So, do you agree with Sharad Kelkar that he deserves bigger and more iconic roles in the near future?
