From working as a software engineer to CarDekho co-owner

Amit has an engineering degree and like most, he took up a job as a software engineer. He worked in Trilogy in 2000. His main aim was to develop the website called www.yourbillbuddy.com. Amit worked at the firm for seven years straight.

While Amit was still working, his father developed a terminal illness and passed away in 2006. It was in 2007 that he along with his brother Anurag had to take over the family business of selling gemstones.

Neither of the brothers were interested in the business and so, they started another. They opened a software company called GirnarSoft. That set the base for CarDekho, which saw the light of the day in 2008.

It was when Amit and Anurag attended Auto Expo in New Delhi, that they got the idea to open CarDekho. Initially, they even faced a loss of Rs. 1 crores. That is till 2015, when CarDekho picked up and found investors. CarDekho also merged with Gaadi, Zigwheels, Carmudi Philippines and Cardrift.

How CarDekho became an umbrella

CarDekho’s success motivated Amit and Anurag to expand their business. With that, they started three new companies. Now, we have CarDekho, InsuranceDekho, BikeDekho and CollegeDekho. All of them generated revenue.

CarDekho itself is evaluated at Rs. 110 crores. If one counts all the investments Amit made over the years apart from that, his net worth is currently at Rs. 2900 crores.
