Through his business savvy and charming demeanour Aman Gupta, co-founder and chief marketing officer of boAt, has become one of the most popular and likeable sharks on Shark Tank India. But when it comes to pitches he was all business, displaying his expertise with the sharp questions he threw at the entrepreneurs from time to time. And like the other sharks, Aman always had his trusty folder by his side too, and the businessman revealed the contents of the coveted file he kept by his side.
In a conversation with comedians Rohan Joshi, Tanmay Bhat and Sahil Shah, Aman and his co-shark, Namita Thapar (executive director of Emcure Pharmaceuticals) were questioned as to what they actually wrote down in their files while they listened to contestants’ pitches. Aman revealed that initially, he did not use to write anything at all, but was inspired to start scribbling when he noticed that the other sharks used to write a number of pages during the pitches. Not one to be left behind and afraid that people would say he isn’t doing anything, Aman too joined them, although most of his scribblings consisted of crosses and knots. But he soon realised that there was no use in pretending to take notes, so he stopped. And besides, the other sharks already had their notes so all he had to do was take photocopies, Aman added.
Namita’s response to the question was the complete opposite. Reminding everyone that she was a ‘qualified CA’, the businesswoman said that she used to take ‘real’ notes during the pitches, and a lot of them too.
Ashneer Grover, who recently resigned from his company, BharatPE; Anupam Mittal, CEO and founder of Shaadi.com; Vineeta Singh, CEO and co-founder of SUGAR Cosmetics; Ghazal Alagh, co-founder and Chief Mama of MamaEarth; too were a part of the business reality show.
Season 1 of Shark Tank India can be streamed on SonyLIV.
