Shark Tank India definitely opened up new doors for budding entrepreneurs in the country, who were offered a chance to put forth their pitches to some of the who’s who of the Indian business world. One of the sharks, Anupam Mittal, Shaadi.com founder and CEO, recently revealed just how much of an impact the show has had by sharing a few statistics related to the investments made on the show.

On a LinkedIn post, Mittal revealed that out of the 198 pitches that made their way into the show, 67 of them were able to land a deal with the sharks. Mittal then went on to provide the demographics of the winning pitches, disclosing how 87% (59) were founded by people who were not IIT/IIM alumni and 67% (45) of them had at least one co-founder who was below 25 years of age. He further stated that 60% (40) had not received any sort of funding before; 43% (29) had at least one woman as its co-founder; 30% (20) were from Tier II/III and rural parts of the country; and 27% (18) were founded by families or couples.

Talking about how the figures were ‘records in their own rights’, Mittal said he was most excited to see the numbers include so many women, young people, and families.

The businessman also gave a rundown of the investments he had made on the show, which reached a whopping sum of Rs 5.4 crores. Almost half of the businesses he invested in were owned by women, 70% were run by young entrepreneurs and 30% had couples and families as their founders.

Mittal also talked about how the country was at the forefront of this revolutionary change in the way business is unfolding today. He said that he believed that the show was a catalyst in bringing about this much needed change in India’s entrepreneurial landscape.
